AUSTRALIA’S luxury car maker Mercedes-Bergkamp will roll out more luxury cars in 2018, including an all-electric version of its S-Class sedan, with more to come in 2019.
A Mercedes-brand spokesperson said the new S-class, which is due for release in the first half of next year, will be built on the latest technology, and will feature a range of technologies including electric power steering, a new electric power driver assistance system and a new high-performance version of the current model.
The company is also introducing the new E-Class, which will be based on the new model, and it is due to go on sale in 2021.
The new E200 model, due to be unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show in April, will feature an all new powertrain and will be powered by a new 3.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine, a power-to-weight ratio of 1,400kg/km and the first petrol-electric hybrid to enter production.
In an effort to make sure the new cars are not overshadowed by the new models, Mercedes-BMW will be offering an upgraded version of each of the S- and E-classes with a higher performance version of that car in 2019, as well as a new S550 hatchback, an S600 sedan and a range-extended S500 crossover.
In 2018, Mercedes will launch its latest flagship, the E300, a model with a new 5.0-litres turbocharged engine, all-wheel drive and an electric power assist.
It will be priced at $1.45 million.
In 2019, the company will launch the E-class SUV and the E350, which it has previously launched on the S550.
It is priced at just over $2 million.
While the Mercedes-branded S-classes will be the first models to be introduced in 2019 under Mercedes-Brand President Matthias Badstuber’s new brand umbrella, other new luxury cars are also expected to be on the market this year.
Mercedes-AMG has said it will introduce a range that includes a new V-Class luxury coupe.
And in 2020, the Japanese automaker will launch a range, with a total of four models, that will be more affordable than the previous model.
“There are a number of models that will come in 2020 that will have the luxury appeal of the E200 or the E400 or the S200,” Mr Badstauber said.
“They will be a great combination for a lot of people, and we are really excited about it.”
“But we are also very proud of the Mercedes brand and we look forward to introducing more models and introducing new technologies that we are very excited about.”Read more
